Former marketing executive Steve Rubin made his producing debut in the spring of 2001 on Showtime's "Bleacher Bums," a comedy based on the popular stage play about a group of Chicago baseball fans and their amazing day at the park.
Rubin has spent the last ten years developing and acquiring remakes of some of Hollywood's most high profiles films and television series.
He is currently the president of Fast Carrier Pictures, an independent film and television production and development company with a first look producing deal with Showtime.
In March of 1997, he purchased remake rights to the hit ABC television series "Combat!" and sold his script and the rights to Paramount Pictures where he is a producing partner with Bill Todman, Jr. and Joel Simon.
The project is being developed as a feature.
That same year he acquired remake rights from Jerry Lewis to the classic comedy "The Errand Boy," a project that is currently in development at Spyglass at Walt Disney.
Rubin will be the co-executive producer.
For Showtime, in addition to "Bleacher Bums," Rubin is currently developing "The Battle for Hollywood," a McCarthy-era film based on the clash between Cecil B. DeMille and Joseph Mankiewicz for control of the Screen Director's Guild in 1950; and "Twilight Time," the true story of how writer Rod Serling created the most famous anthology series in history, "The Twilight Zone" ( he is partnered with Serling's wife, Carol).
Rubin is also writing and producing a contemporary remake of the Sam Fuller Korean War classic, "The Steel Helmet," (now set in contemporary West Africa during the Liberian Civil War) and with partners Dana Walker and Steve Mitchell, he's in pre-production on "A Walk in the Sun," a remake of the 1945 World War II classic.
In 1993, he wrote and directed the Showtime documentary, "Return to 'The Great Escape,'" a popular tribute to the venerable World War II POW classic that starred Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson.
He also wrote "Cars," a wild live-action fantasy adventure film about one day in the not-too-distant future, when cars everywhere launch a revolt against mankind.
A native of Chicago, Rubin is recognized as a leading film historian and is the author of seven books, including Combat Films: American Realism 1945-1970, The Complete James Bond Movie Encyclopedia and Reel Exposure: How to Publicize and Promote Today's Motion Pictures.
As a motion picture publicist and promoter, Rubin spent 22 years working on the production and release campaigns for over 150 films, for such companies as MGM/UA, Paramount, Columbia, Walt Disney, Warner Bros. and New Century/Vista.
He was under exclusive contract to Showtime for eight years.
He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Elisa, their daughter Jaymie, and son Darren.
